  • Stay at Mihiwaka Lodge, coastal Dunedin luxury retreat and enjoy the unique eco-climate of this special place – walk into the hills, listen to the many native birds, visit the nearby Orokonui ecosanctuary (2007), walk to the shore where you will find beautiful untouched golden sand and take a dip in the water of the bay.
     
  • 25 minutes to start of scenic trail around Otago harbour to view yellow eyed penguins, seals, albatross colony, Larnach Castle, Otago University marine Aquarium at Portobello
     
  • 15 minutes over the hill to Port Chalmers, Careys Bay and Aramoana
     
  • 10 minutes north on Highway 1, turn off on coast road and visit the seaside town of Warrington
     
  • Continue on to historic Seacliff – site of the previous Seacliff Mental Hospital where famous New Zealand author, Janet Frame spent some years and the hospital on which experience she based her well known novel ‘Faces in the Water’
     
  • Continue around the coast road to Karitane, another picturesque coastal fishing village and home to the founder of the New Zealand
    Plunket Society – Sir Frederick Truby King
     
  • Continue around the coast and link back to State Highway 1 to Palmerston, gateway to the Otago Goldfields Trail
    Travel a further 10 minutes to historic Moeraki – home of the famous Moeraki Boulders
     
  • Continue on Highway 1 to Oamaru – famous for its limestone buildings and gardens
     
  • Dunedin City Centre offers – movies, shops, Otago University, Dunedin Public Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Moana Leisure Pool, Botanic gardens, Otago Museum, Dunedin public art gallery, Settlers Museum and much more.  Mihiwaka Lodge is 15 minutes away from Dunedin city centre.
